Eventing Trainer
Eventing is a sport that includes three phases: dressage, cross country and show jumping. (link dressage and jumping pages to the words) The first phrase, dressage, is an event that consists of movement tests on the flat. Show jumping, or jumping, comprises of a course of jumps at a set height that horse and rider strive to clear under a time allowed. Cross country jumping involves a track of solid obstacles to jump, including logs, hedges, and fences. The obstacles may be followed by a small pool of water the horse and rider must navigate through in addition to the varied terrain. Competitors are scored by the number of penalties accumulated in each phase. Therefore, the rider with the lowest score takes home the blue.
While Eventing is for anyone of any age, the horses actually have age restrictions: novice, training, preliminary intermediate.
Novice or Training horses range from four to five years of age
Preliminary horse range from five to six years of age
Intermediate or Advanced horse range from six or seven years of age
Competitors must be proficient in all three phases and have a strong relationship with their horse before you do Eventing.
Riders need to have a trainer that will teach in all three phases: dressage, cross country and show jumping. Trainers should be experienced in all three phases and meet certain qualifications to teach Eventing. While all three phases have risks, cross country jumping and showjumping are both incredibly high-risk events. Therefore, trainers should be able to show that they both have years of experience and are qualified, whether those qualifications are certifications or achievements.
